: Horrible tragedy at Houston Federal Building

Last year, on a Saturday morning, a couple of Federal employees went to work on a Saturday. They were the only ones in the building (naturally, it's SATURDAY!).

They were on their way up to their office when all of a sudden the electricity cut off. They were trapped. They called out for help, but there was no one there, not even a telephone to call authorities, neither had a cellphone. They finally lost all hope of returning safely to their loved ones. Luckily, they were finally found on Monday morning, but obviously it was too late. They were severely traumatized by the incident, and after a year of therapy, they retired on disability.

DON'T let this happen to you. Always carry your cellphone with you for use in case of such an emergency. If you can reach proper authorities, they can break in and save you before it's too late.

I've always said that it's ok to walk on an escalator, but this was funnnnny!
And remember...an escalator never breaks down. If it stops, it magically becomes a staircase.

Sol Cruisin, I gotta tell you this story. I was sitting in a chair reading a book by my hotel room window yesterday when a peregrine landed on the sill outside. We were literally face to face about 12" apart. It was just about the neatest thing to see.:rollingsm

Any bird that can take down a pigeon on the wing is a mean bird.
This was in Luanda, Angola:bandit:

Gadget, I am jealous! Peregrines are not "mean" (unless from GM), they are better than humans, they kill only to survive and eat what they kill! Usually quickly and, if correct, nearly painlessly.

BACK ON THREAD.....
I never cease to be amazed at people and their responses.

I also don't understand phobias. "Thank You GOD" that he choose not to give me one.

I cannot relate to people who panic if the elevator stops. So you sit is a small room for a while till they open it. What's the big deal?

I don't get not being able to look out a window in a high-rise. Throw me out of a plane without a chute, YEA I'm gonna panic! LOL But safe in a building?

Now don't go all "hater" on me, it is just who this slightly twisted person is!

My great disappointment is that "stupid" does not get its just rewards often enough! OK, flame on...

Well, although I do not suffer from the elevator phobia, I think I can understand it. You are used to having elevators work without error for years and years. Then all of a sudden it stops unexpectedly. If it does that, well, maybe it might fall crashing to the bottom!

What the person doesn't stop to realize is, what caused the elevator to stop has nothing to do with causing it to fall to the bottom. Totally unrelated.

Vicky, her brother Jaime, her daughter Nini, and I were with a whole bunch of people at the very bottom of Hoover Dam years ago on a tour. We were the last elevator to return to the top. It started up a little bit then stopped! We were packed in there SO tight, so could tell what sex the person behind you was! Maybe 50 of us in a normal sized elevator. Everyone was fine for awhile, but after 10 minutes or so one girl started getting anxious. Her boyfriend/husband consoled her pretty well, but she really wanted out of there. They finally brought another elevator down the shaft right next to us and opened the doors between us and WE WERE SAVED! :banasex0r

Bad news is, because of 9/11, they don't do those tours anymore. :eyebrow:

Well I'll tell you all a little something about me, No bashing or looking at me differently. Up until a year ago I was the biggest badass for a woman you could meet. I would kick anyones ass without even thinking about it. But now, A year later, I can not even go out on our meets without being on anti-depresants, and Anti-Anxiety meds. I can not even go into a hospital or I have a panic attack. I worry about ever getting sick and having to go to the Dr. they scare the living shit out of me. My daughter accidently hit me in the head with the back door to my mommy mobile and cracked my head open, I stayed at home bleeding with an ice pack on my head until the next day when I could go to my Dr's office to have it looked at.

So yea, I can understand when someone tells me they freak out for little things like being trapped in an elevator or looking out a window in a high rise building.

Ohhhhh BTW in case you're wondering, I suffer from post tramatic disorder. I suffer from it because I lost my mom.

WOW, Christina, I had no idea. You certainly seem cool as far as I'm concerned. I'm sure that real estate agent saw the old Christina, eh?

If there's anything I can do to help, I'm there for you, baby!

By the way, when I used to work for the national CPA firm, no one in the office ever knew I was an alcoholic. Well, not until I came to work one day sober. :banasex0r :banasex0r :banasex0r

Thank you my darlin. I have to take one day at a time. I do really well and my goal is to one day be off the meds. Sad thing is, and I can admit it because I think more people shoulld know what goes on with people like me. I've tried to take myself off the meds, and the longest stretch I've made was a month. But then I start to get suicidal. ...... Ouch ........ that hurts to say out loud. But yea, thats me. But I have my rock by my side.

We can always hide behind our smiles........... right??
