Hey Giz

When did I move??

Ohio at least for now. NC, SC, and GA are looking REAL good at the moment. I have had it with WINTER, and it hasn't even started yet.

After this year, Wife & I are going to vacate Texas in July & August and may bail out all together in the future! We looked at land north of Nashville - loved it!

I completely understand why you are looking to get out of that kind of heat. My in-laws live in Claremore, OK and we made the MISTAKE of heading down there for the last week in July and first week in August a few years ago. All I can say is "TOO HOT FOR GOLF, and TOO HOT TO FISH". We had to fish after dark, and my clubs NEVER saw the light of day. NOT GOOD, and never again.
Even at their place on Grand Lake, it was too hot to move.:bandit: :bandit:

Well, we are setting Tennessee aside until we decide what we want to do. As GIZ will tell you, States with personal income tax are not very friendly. I believe TN. has a combination of personal and property tax. Texas is great if you have an apartment or live out of a motor home.:banasex0r But you sure wouldn't want to have multiple houses in Texas. That's why Texans buy second homes in Colorado. We have friends here that live & work in Texas but bought a 2nd home in Oklahoma (Lake Texoma) and it's about a $225k house and the annual tax is $800. What a deal!

Best option would be to keep Texas a our State of residency (lowest appraised value as possible), then buy a 2nd home in a State with no (or low) property tax. Wyoming and Alabama rank pretty low on the tax ranking.

What to do - what to do? Only a good CPA knows for sure!

In the meantime, in '07 the wife and I are going to Europe for a month (2 weeks in the U.K. and a 2 week Baltic cruise. That should take care of August!

We're still going to go to Nashville early and look in the north and north east area within 75 miles of Nashville.

I think that not having to pay a state tax may be better then having to pay a higher property tax.
Sounds like y'all petty much know you wanna leave the heat there. Which I dont blame you. When hubby enlisted we talked about where we wanted to go and I told him anywhere but here in Texas, I was sick of the heat. So he put in for bases all in the North East and when he phoned me to tell me where we were going I was like what? Where? He says........ New Mexico... I asked him where the hell is New Mexico...............

I'll take a look at Tennessee income tax for you. Probably wouldn't be much to worry about, if the property taxes are a lot lower. Just depends on your income level and types of income. But maintaining your residence in Texas might help too.

Yep, I'm gonna make it a long vacation too. My birthday is June 12, so I'm drivin to Pittsburgh area to visit with my family, the first week of June. Then to a good friends house in the Mid PA area. Our birthdays are the same day.

Then off to the National meet.

After the meet, I'm gonna swing down to Forsyth Georgia, to see what my "namesake" city looks like.

Then back to CA.

A little girl and her mom were sitting in a church during a wedding ceremony. The girl says: Mommy, why is the bride dressed all in white?

Mommy says: Well, honey, that's because today is the happiest day in her life.

The girl seemed to accept that logic, then asked: Then why is the groom dressed all in black?

Thanks for the warm welcome as I have always been acustomed to when visiting or living in the Republic Of Texas. I will never forget my teen years in San Antonio and later working in Houston in the 60s. I still consider leaving Mexico some day and returning to live in the SA area. Welllllllllllllllllllll let me tell you about the painting. Both the girls' rooms are done. Emily wanted purple (she's the one you met at Yankee's Tavern) and Amanda wanted a very soft pale blue. Both rooms look great. The Kitchen we did in a nice yellow and we only did two of the walls. Looks great. Then we have our room. Ok, I wanted something in like a Sage color. But I did not want something dark. But instead of going lighter, we went brighter. And OMG it's awful. I got half of two walls done and I hated it. the color looks about like this:smileysqu maybe even closer to this:D . So needless to say this weekend we are going to pick out another color and finish the room. Plus Shawn (or Shane for you :D) is going to paint the garage floor so I can park my baby in there and he needs to install the garage door opener. Then we'll be done.................. for now ;)

I absolutely agree! It has been a long time since we rented an apartment, but I remember how I felt when we bought our first home - a duplex - then someone else was paying our payment and we were living basically rent free!:) BTW - when we first got married we rented an apartment in a very "ritzy" part of the city for $70 a month! Boy, those days are long gone....

Have you finished the painting of your beautiful house yet?

Then we'll be done.................. for now ;)
OK, I was checking to see when it was safe to come by and visit.

Let me know when the painting is done and the garage door opener is installed! :banasex0r :banasex0r :banasex0r

.... BTW - when we first got married we rented an apartment in a very "ritzy" part of the city for $70 a month! Boy, those days are long gone....
That reminds me of the time I was in the Navy, we were in the shipyard in Mobile. My best buddy drove up from Tampa in his Fiat convertible to pick me up, we were headed to New Orleans for a 3-day holiday weekend.

As he arrived in Mobile, his car broke down, no parts available until Tuesday. Most of the guys were gone from the ship for the weekend, so I let him sleep in one of the bunks. Imagine the next morning when this long-haired hippy Cuban walks off the ship! I told him if anyone says anything, just keep walking, don't acknowledge. :eyebrow:

So we caught the Greyhound into NO. On the bus we met a guy from England and a girl from Germany, they had just met as well. We arrived in NO and decided to get a cheap room and split it four ways. We found this one for $8 (that's $2 each for you non-math majors!) but we had to be out by 9 AM.

Sure, sure, no problem. Stowed our stuff away and hit Bourbon Street, Preservation Hall, Pat O'Brien's! I had two Hurricanes (one more would have been a 911 call, and there was no 911 back then!) We got back to the room and zonked out.

Along comes 9 AM and the manager is banging on the door: get up, you gotta get out right now. I said: What time is it? It's 9 AM, come on, you gotta get out NOW! OK, we're getting up. No, no, you gotta get out RIGHT NOW!

Why? What's the big deal? He said: Look out the window. There was a crane with a huge wreaking ball! :banasex0r :banasex0r :banasex0r

The four of us moved out of there VERY quickly! :bouncy:

You sure came to the right place for that! :bouncy: WELCOME!

We just keep it easy and fun over here, everyone is so nice we don't even NEED moderators, though I'd welcome them here. Especially to keep the riff-raff spammers out of here! :banasex0r

Good to see you over here. Maybe MTC will join as well.
