: Turbo Question
Ernest 10-13-2006, 09:26 AM Mayhem being my first ever turbo, I would like to know what stage the factory turbo is compared to Hahn Turbos? Stage 1, II, or if they can even be compared. Just curious. BTW, Dual Scroll = Double Fun for sure!! Just ask the many oil can muffler rice burners Mayhem spanked! Not to mention a few Crossfires, Z's etc.:D

First there is not a Stage I Hahn.
Check here for Stage II info, and poke around for Stage III and Stage IV info.

The GXP, and a Hahn Turbo'd base Solstice are 2 very different animals.

wonder if there are any advantages to 2.4 upgraded( base kit) vs the 2.0 factory ?
in
basic laymen terms ? ---- what are differences ? what does that mean ?
also as fair as - upkeep - reliability- long term issues ?
( after installarion ) do you see the need to be a mechanic for upkeep etc- or seriously are needs close to same - change oil..lol

The long term issues have yet to be determined, but one thing you can be sure of, if ANYTHING breaks in the drivetrain on the Hahn car, Pontiac is going to try to avoid warranty claims. The Hahn Solstice cars are still working out the kinks, cooling issues, etc.
Well zzzybil unless you are VERY handy with a wrench I would NOT even attempt to do a turbo install. It is NOT for the faint of heart, or the tool challenged, from the information which I have gleaned. I seriously considered going the Hahn route, and finally decided to go with the GXP. For one thing I couldn't find a "Hahn approved" installer within 500 miles of me.
If you want BIG HP I would drop my car off at Mallet and do a V8 conversion, plus you get Mallets warranty to back it up. If not BIG HP, but better HP, my PERSONAL choice is to get yourself a GXP.
I'll duck now before the Hahn crowd http://img.inkfrog.com/pix/eotrg/bricks.gif on me.

zzzybil 10-15-2006, 04:11 PM i wasn't clear i meant after installation -
some opinion on how much boost a 2.4 would be cool with for street use -not racing - if you decided NOT to wait on gxp......

Cooling problems is one issue that I have seen as an issue from ALL of the Hahn owners. They have been trying everything they can think of, with the most recent mods being aluminum radiators at the tune of about 700 bucks + install time.
Turboing the 2.4 is a FANTASTIC idea, but IMHO is still in the BETA testing phase, and if you are gonna play, be prepared to have issues, and spend money. I would wait, but then again I have a GXP sitting in the garage.

Gizmo 10-15-2006, 09:27 PM Don't forget to mention that the Hahn turbo costs $4000.
The GXP is only about $2500 more than a 2007 with the same amenities. The GXP has several things standard, such as ABS, LSD, etc, etc.
PLUS the turbo, PLUS the stabilitrac, PLUS the dual-exit exhaust and fascia.
Need cost, 0-60 and quarter mile time and speed for each of the following:
GXP
Hahn Stage II
Hahn Stage III
Hahn Stage IV

The question is, which is faster (and cost for each Hahn)?
GXP
Hahn Stage II
Hahn Stage III
Hahn Stage IV
That 4K is NOT the real cost on the Hahn - that is for the turbo pieces parts only plus Hahns ECM tune ONLY. Doesn't include your labor, or your $$ to install it. The $$ and labor to resolve the various issues arising from turboing the car. The $2500 isn't the "real" cost of the GXP either. Everybody adds the "options" that the GXP has as standard, and says the turbo only costs $2500. No, it costs $2500 plus the price of those now standard options. Because maybe I don't want them, or can't afford them.
The Stage II car and the GXP are pretty close in "go fast" with the tilt to the Hahn car. We haven't seen the pricing for Stage III and IV, but they will blow the GXP off the road. Of course they will also blow a Vette off the road based on Hahn turning 12s at a drag strip. Read about it here.

I would, and did, go for the GXP over the Hahn with the BIG push being that I am NOT a wrench. When you're paying big bucks for pieces parts, and bigger bucks for labor the GXP choice is a NO BRAINER.

tweety 10-17-2006, 11:42 AM If you are in the Houston market or would drive your car to the Houston market, I will install your Hahn kit for you for $600.00 and a #5 value meal, ketchup only.
I have done my car and another now and will be the local installer if you don't have the time, space, or tools. It isn't a hard installation but time consuming. A good 6-8 hour installation.
popsintx 10-17-2006, 05:42 PM Tweety the price sounds fair. How much is it if we want to watch, ask questions, or even help?

You want to watch? Kind of like watching grass grow.
You can watch if you want and you can help if you want. But the price is the same either way. I don't tend to be too social when I get working on something so conversation should be limited to yes/no questions. This is for my benefit being a long winded talker.
Some people that want to help (like my wife), tend to be more in the way than not. I enjoy help when I can get it but I am shocked as to how many people don't want to get dirty. Heck, I don't like it either but it keeps my mind busy and it's a bit like therapy for me.
Questions are free almost any time regardless of if it's an install or not. If I can provide an answer or find someone that can provide an answer, I will take the question. Almost all subjects are open with me.
If you have all the tools then I work at your location. If not, the car comes to me. That part sucks because my toy has to be outside.
carlintexas 10-17-2006, 09:55 PM Don't forget to add $670 for a werks radiator - if you live in temps that get above 80!
Gizmo 10-18-2006, 07:29 AM How cool is that? So far we've got two Hahn turbos, 3 GXPs, and a Sky Redline.
