Count on the aftermarket to step up and offer what GM won’t provide. Mallett Cars, home of some rather fierce Corvettes and a supercharged CTS-V that won the sedan class in Car & Driver’s most-recent supercar shootout, recently announced they will be offering a V8 version of the upcoming Pontiac Solstice and Saturn Sky.

:eek2: :rockon That will be a Viper killer just think about the power to weight ratio that car would have.!!!!!!!

Actually, the V8 Solstice won't be much of a killer compared to the Corvette and Viper. The LS2 engine will be detuned to keep the drivetrain from breaking. Expect to see whp under 300 HP on the original drivetrain.
Now if you can afford the cost of upgrading with the same drivetrain in a Corvette then you will have a great performer, expect to pay over $25 for this complete upgrade though. If you want to keep your mods under $10k then wait for the GXP version next year and spend the money on carbon fiber lighten parts (hood, deck lib, spoiler, etc). For under $35K you can get 250+ whp and weight in the 2600 lb catergory. This will get you running 0-60 in the low 5's and 1/4 mile in the mid 14's.

Even de-tuned it will put up on heck of a good fight and your right the power tran probably could not handle the LS2 out of the Vette. But the car would be absolutely nuts to drive.

its not detuned it says specifically 400 horsepower ls2 engine they cant false adverdise that would be bad idea for private companty like mallett
thats why they offer a heavy duty differential
the stock parts can handle the 400hp but not nessicarily a lead foot

I think you guys are smoking the rock. The rear end is out of a nearly 4000 lb car. And there are upgraded parts that handle a ls6 in that car. The trans is from a truck ment to handle 5-7k tow load. I think it can handle the ls2 in a 3000 lb car with nothing more than a clutch.

hot rod magazine had a small article about the solstice about a year ago and the last line of the article said "first person to stuff a V8 in one of these wins". everyone knew it was coming, whether it was a private company like mallett or an everyday wrencher in his garage with a crate engine and a dream was just a matter of time to find out.

If the 2.4L Turbo motor is true than for the average guy i dont see the need for the V8. You can most lily get a built, stroked, 2.8L eco and upgraded turbo to make more power for less money than the v8 swap.

i agree that the v8 is unnecessary and im waiting for the turbo model to come out to buy one. the v8 is just a fun and outrageous.
