A removable hardtop option will be available for the 2007 Solstice according to sources cited in AutoWeek. The hardtop will be the cheapest way for GM to squeak the Solstice in Sports Car Club of America events. GM also has a fixed roof coupe on the drawing board, dubbed the Solstice GT, with production plans hanging on the popularity of the Solstice. If sales tank, GM would want to boost the model-line with a new variant. If the car takes off, GM would want to cash in. Shown is the Solstice coupe concept from 2002.

The removable hard-top would be a nice feature. I'm not familiar with how that works though....would you still have the rag-top as well, or would the hard-top takes it's place? The hard-top would have to be stored outside the car when off correct??

I'm still waiting for official word on the turbo model. Ever since I got my Mazda6 I realize how fun a smaller/ligher weight car with good handling can be. I love the power of my TA, but I think I would have more overall fun with e a Solstice or Mazdaspeed MX-5.

I think I'll just wait to see how things shake out. So, when is the first person on here gonna get there Solstice?

Wouldn't the hard top sit over the he rear trunk lid with the soft top in the closed position, similar to that of the older Mercedes SL? The hardtop had to be removed and and stored away and you still had the factory option to use the soft top if the hardtop was off. I took a photo shoped a coupe version since we were on topic. Have a great day!

I would surely expect that the HT will be handled like it is with the Miata---HT sits over all the parts of the convertible top. Miata has a HT option.
