Any word on where speakers will be? I can see in the pics that there will be speakers in the lower front portion of the doors, what about behind the seats? Not really room in the trunk for anytype of sub or bass tube, are they going to put speakers in the head rests like in the Miata? I hope they do because that really does increase the ability to hear music cruising down the highway with the top down. If they don't put them there, that'll be one of the first things I try to do.

You can also see front-mounted tweeters along the edge of the windshield.

Looks like ~5 1/4" speakers low in each door and a 3/4" or so tweeter in each A-pillar; a fairly common factory audio set-up. I don't see any indications of rear speakers or seat/headrest-mounted speakers.

It's a matter of personal taste, but I don't personally care for headrest-mounted speakers. In my experience they tend to degrade the imaging and have below average sound quality. It's probably due to the limitations of what kinds of drivers can be mounted there, but I'd just as soon go without. I also find rear-fill speakers unnecessary in a small cockpit two-seater. They tend to end up being closer to your ear than the front speakers, and have an adverse affect on imaging as well.

My current car is a two-seater with a small cockpit (as opposed to? :) ). I have an aftermarket amp, component set with 5 1/4" mids and 1 1/2" (?) tweeters. Also a single 10" sub in a sealed enclosure. It's not a convertible, but rather a T-top, and with the tops out on the highway there's still enough volume for me. I'm planning on a similar install in the Solstice.

My current top Audio concerns for the solstice:

1) Is the audio stack a standard double-din? Appears so, but manufacturers have been known to use goofy proprietary brackets from time to time.

2) What are the odds of integrating the steering wheel audio controls with an aftermarket head unit? This is an area in dire need of some industry-wide standards.

3) General install questions: How easy will it be to take the door panels off, what gaguge wire will be run to the door speakers, how easy will it be to take off the A-pillar trim, will there be suitable gromets in the front firewall to run power cables for an amp under the seats? And so forth.

4) Will there be small storage spaces behind the seats, as with the MR-Spyder? If so, this is a good place for a sub.

We'll know in a year and a half....

Are tweeters typically considered speakers when added to the total speaker count for a car? Seems like an awful lot of speakers otherwise in these premium audio systems with 8, 10 speakers if tweeters arn't accounted for.

I guess if the Solstice didn't have any rear-mounted speakers, it would at least seem resonable on paper to at least say "4 speakers", including the tweeters, instead of 2.
