From the GMI site (GM Inside news), this was an editorial written by the site staffers, hopefully there is some truth to this stuff......and hopefully it won't take 5-6 more years before we see these options. Anyways, here's the link:

That's almost too good to be true. Thanks for the info!

Personally, if the bottom end came out with 180hp that would be great. Right in line with the MazdaSpeed and Z4. Then anything in the 220 to 240 hp range would be an incredible offering. I'd take 220hp if they would provide it. Now do you really think there would be 4 versions (base, GT, GTP, GXP)? I think not.

The four models does seem a bit much, but two different power levels is a definite possibility.

However, (for a comparison) Chevy's website has details on the Cobalt, they list options for three different engines (ecotecs), three tranny options, three suspension tuning options and four different wheel options! As you can imagine this provides alot of combinations, some will go for sporty and flashy, others will buy stripper/plain jane Cobalts. If the Cobalt options are any indication of what GM can and will offer for the Solstice then that must be considered good news.

I also get the feeling that GM (and other car companies) are finally taking aim at the sport compact market (honda and miatas take notice). The SRT 4 neon is already a monster, Ford has the Focus SVT, BMW the Mini Cooper S (check out their options list sheeeesh!). Meanwhile the General will roll out the Colbalt SS, Ion red-line and Solstice, which could be a versatile three way punch for GM. All 3 should offer small sporty size, long option lists for the tuner crowd, edgy style and better than expected performance (hopefully).
