I was thinking about how nice a 6 speed would be with this car? Afterall, the Solstice major competitor has one, why can't the General make one available? :coolsmile I've read how the Aisian 5 speed will have close ratio's, wouldn't it be nice if they could offer 1 more speed? Would you be willing to pay extra? I know I would! :rockon

I'd be all over a 6 spd version! Especially if they squeeze more power outta that engine. I'd definitely pay to upgrade.

I went looking for more info on the transmission (ratios, torque capacity, etc.) I didn't find much. Every hit for "Aisin 5MW" I found just linked to one of the various press releases for the Solstice. I couldn't find specs for that tranny on Aisin's site anywhere, either. I did find this link to GM's powertrain site:

GM powertrain transmission listing (http://www.gm.com/automotive/gmpowertrain/transmissions/gmpow/index.htm)

...but no mention of the 5-speed manual, all Aisin transmissions listed are automatics. I did find a link to a "GM/MW5," which gives gear ratios as:
4.02, 2.32, 1.40, 1.00, 0.73

As for a 6 speed in the parts bin, there's always the venerable Tremec T56. I think the T56 was in the show car, too. It wouldn't suprise me at all to see a 6-speed on the turbo/supercharged version when it shows up.

What I'm wondering now: What other transmissions does GM use with the ecotec in front-engine, rear wheel drive configurations? Or is there no other FE/RWD ecotec out there?

weird, I assumed there was a six speed, but that was on the concept car perhaps?? I doubled checked pontiac.com and you are right, they have it listed as an Aisin 5 speed manual.

I dunno why but I kept thinking that it was a 6 speed Aisin?
 Maybe they will have powertrain options as the achitecture evolves, this is also why I might delay purchasing a Solstice until 2006/2007, by then I hope the SC/TC model will be out too.
