: Ordered Mine Today
2091351 02-13-2004, 09:39 AM Ordered my Pontiac Solstice today!
Stopped at the local GM Dealer and he was more than happy to take my deposit and put me in the queue.
He related to me that dealer allocation is very imprtant timewise.
As soon as final specifications are available I will be able to select the options that I want.

simmonsmb 02-13-2004, 10:03 AM How in the world did you get your dealer to do that? I've asked two seperate dealers around here about pre-ordering and they both said they were unable to do that until GM released more info closer to the summer. One told me to sign up for Pontiac's news list and check back with them closer to the Summer, and the other said they would keep my information and contact me whenever they knew something about pre-ordering. Hmmmm.......
2091351 02-13-2004, 10:09 AM I have been to see him several times in the last few months about ordering and he has always been real interested in ordering one for me. He gave me what documentation he had on it, a dealer magazine, and said he wants to be able to push the order up the GM marketing ladder as a sold unit.
I am sure he would be happy to order one for anyone else, let me know and I can post his name and phone.

Don't ya just love dealers like this. There usually the last to know about anything. Not to mention they don't know anything about the cars on the lot their trying to sell.
rhoyle 02-16-2004, 10:17 AM My Dealership, as well as Pontiac's Customer Service told me that you can not order a car until production has started.
Which dealership accepted your order?
2091351 02-16-2004, 11:57 AM Local dealer here in town was more than happy to take my order and my deposit.
I don't see any problem with it, specifications are to be determined later. He wants to show his GM management that he has a SOLD car. Now they need to work out the delivery for his customer.

I'm sure he was "more than happy" to take your money... lol I'd be weary of giving a deposit for anything if there's no set date as far as when you can actually pre-order one and when they'll actually hit the dealerships. Now, if they would take the deposit being put into an escrow account in place of a deposit into their actual account, I'd jump all over that. Oh well, maybe I'm just not that trusting of people who are only out to make a buck.
rhoyle 02-16-2004, 05:33 PM Your local dealership, does it have a name?
They haven't SOLD a thing. They have a deposit on a car that GM has yet to even make. That deposit is completely refundable (I hope for your sake). GM knows there is interest. I've spoken to more than one dealership and none of them will take a deposit. I'd be weary.

John Payton is the person I ordered the vehicle from.
I really don't have any problem with him taking my deposit. He and his family lives here in town and they aren't going anywhere.
The big city dealers only have employees w/o any cahones and as posted before, not too much knowledge. I firmly believe that any owner of a dealership will take an order deposit for a vehicle. What would they have to lose? Mr. Payton just wants to make a living selling cars and service for them.

ig88vsbobafett 02-28-2004, 02:52 PM I was at my Local Pontiac Dealer today. And they still didnt have any thing on the Solstice but they had a New GTO there with a $3000 Fee on it because of the low production #s
Mracer 02-28-2004, 07:04 PM ...reguarding that $3000, ahem,...ransome for the GTO, this sends chills down my spine that this is happening! The General has it's demographic sights on the lower end of the market for this car, and for sure we'll have some greedy dealers selling to the highest bidders...again! :( I started a thread earlier about the Solstice being "Hijacked" by dealers. I guess it's capitalism at it's best....sigh :soap: I can see it now, $5000 for undercoating and paint sealant. :o
Solstice006 02-29-2004, 10:34 PM I need to talk to some dealers and at least get on some sort of list so that I can preorder one ASAP.

this is going to be the problem with the Solstice - the dealer network will kill it. The Chrysler dealer network killed the CrossFire. Chrysler did a great promo job with the xfire; driving events, etc. So then when the first group of interested buyers hit the showrooms, looking at a $10K markup, they walked (I was one of them). Now they can't give them away. GM has no control over these dealer practices, if they did, they would have a strict MSRP only policy (if they can do it with Saturn, why not with this car?). The dealers lack any vision, they just want the quick buck, if the car fails to sell 2 years from now because the initial interest is turned away due to gouging, the dealers don't care.
xfire305 04-13-2004, 09:27 PM My dealer just started a list for the Solstice. I am lucky to be number one :bouncy: - saved the email. We did specify MSRP and the high output version. Additionally, I asked for the option to push to a coupe list - if announced. No deposit required to start the list - once order is placed a down payment is required to lock-in MSRP. They mentioned market adjustment when cars are spec ordered by the dealer.
P.S. See this month's C+D - a letter to the editor mentions foregoing the C6 and ordering a Solstice.
psychosquirrel 04-14-2004, 07:46 PM Hey xfire, what kind fo details did the dealer mention about the HO solstice????
Is this a definite option or just a possibility???
Did the dealer confirm that there is some sort of higher level engine option?
I am very curious about this. . . .
well, hopefully you got a reputable dealer. I did this "deposit, waiting list at MSRP" thing for the Mitsu 3000GT when it first came out. sure, I was locked in, but as the cars came in, they sold them marked up over MSRP to other buyers. who could stop them? nobody.
i can tell you from my own experience - a contract to buy a car, with a deposit, means nothing legally unless the contract states a particular VIN number; that is, it is a contract for a SPECIFIC car. they can still pass you over (they did it to me).
Inferno9823 01-07-2005, 12:59 PM I went to my loacl dealer was firs to start on the list and they said when they order their first one they are going to call me so I can pick out all the options on it , so it sounds from what you guys are saying I will have a vin cause it will be a ordered car to my specs so it shouldn't get sold out from under me when it comes in, I am not that worried anyways they are a good dealership and I don't think I will have a problem.
perrypontiac 01-08-2005, 07:39 AM We've been accepting orders since 1 oct 04. we have five deposit so far. if any one interested in having there name placed on the list let me know

(1)-Where are you located?
(2)-For those of us not near to you, what is the procedure for getting on the list and making a deposit?
(3)-How much is the deposit?
(4)-I'm only interested in a base model. I just need A/C is all. Should I just wait until the cars show up on the lot, or would it be better for me to get on the list?
Thank you, sir.
2091351 01-11-2005, 01:04 PM No VIN# as GM/Pontiac is not taking orders. Dealer needed information on hand so when the green lite is turned on, he will be ready.
Steve

they have TX dealers on the forum that are taking deposits NOW! :banasex0r
renesis 01-14-2005, 02:33 PM So nobody has really ordered one since they are not in production. Dealerships are just taking deposits and holding a space for people to get once once production starts. I did this when the S2000's came out since I knew there was going to be more demand than supply at first. So I didn't actually order one, I just gave them my money and told them what color combo I wanted. I also got an agreement that I got my $ back if I didn't end up wanting it, which I did since they jacked the price up to $8k over sticker that first year. Hopefully that won't happen to the Solstice and Sky.
Ren
Evil SS 01-15-2005, 02:55 PM Well, you could always go to your local Saturn Dealer and buy a SKY with a no haggle price. The SKY will keep the greedy Pontiac bastards in check.

either way it dosn't matter which ever easier for you. we will get a wide verity of the Solstice. with AC beening your only option I would say get on the list bc we would order one expectally for you.
bullseye 02-06-2005, 07:51 AM I went through the whole deposit list/waiting list deal for the elise (I had money down for about 3 years). It all depends on the dealer as to how everything transpires. I was first on the list at my dealer and I got the first car they got, no problems. Other dealers didn't play as fairly and cars were arriving but bypassing the waitlisters for people paying market premium.
Try to establish a good rapport with your dealer/salesman and drop by monthly just to say hi, may keep you from being just a name on the list when the cars are getting ordered.
Here in Detroit area, it appears that dealers work differently. I placed my '06 Solstice "order" one year ago - the dealer put me on his "list" and stated that I will be the first order placed when they are able to process orders. Any dealer with some smarts should be glad to start a list and then proceed with ordering when able. Keep in mind each dealer will receive only a few (up to 3 or 4) when production begins and then the wait to fill orders will take place, based on each dealer's allotment (which is tied to dealer size/sales volume).
When the PT Cruiser came out, I ordered one from two different dealers in the Detroit area, one hour apart. Both were 5pd sticks, which took longer to get. The first one arrived in June, 2000 - I drove it all summer and sold it over sticker. The second one (which I still have) did not arrive until September, 2000 (same exact model, color and options). My point: the dealer allotment may determine when yours will arrive, so talk your dealer into taking your "order" or putting you on his list.
