Here's a link to Ward's from Bob Lutz talking about the 200hp Solstice. All I need to know is where is the 240hp one? Oh well guess I'll have to wait for the 500hp conversion from www.agpturbo.com.

No free 30 day trial or anything, either. And what's more annoying, I couldn't find a price listed for the web-only subscription. Just the number of someone to contact, which wasn't toll-free. I think I'll pass.

Sadly, it appears they were smart enough to turn-off google caching for that article as well, so no freebees.

GM will have to build the 240hp one before I can build it into a 500hp car. I wouldn't touch this car unless it comes with a supercharger or turbo.

Some were glum when Pontiac rolled out its ’06 Solstice at the Detroit auto show, announcing the roadster would arrive with only a 170-hp 4-cyl. engine under its hood.

But Bob Lutz, General Motors Corp.’s vice chairman-product development, turns frowns to smiles, revealing a 200-hp 4-cyl. will follow.

200-hp model on way.
"When the 200-hp four is added, no one will ask us why we didn't offer a V-8 in that car," Lutz says of the Solstice.

But there's another reason for starting with a 170-hp engine.

"Insurance premiums are based more on horsepower than the fact it will be a 2-seat roadster," notes Mark Hogan, group vice president-advance vehicle development for GM.

High insurance premiums were one of the factors that helped kill the Pontiac Firebird and Chevy Camaro. GM also is looking to make the Solstice, which will start at under $20,000, affordable for younger buyers.

There’s no word on how long buyers will have to wait for the 200-hp option
