I dunno who started the other thread but I have been investigating this ever since that rumor started. I too emailed GM Canada and they won't give anyone a succinct reply. They give you a form letter reply about keeping new products a secret until they are formally introduced blah blah blah.

I have also gone to my local Pontiac GMC dealership, known to be one of the largest Pontiac sellers in western Canada, and they told me they were quite confident they would get the Solstice in 2005/2006, I even got to be the first on their list to buy them!

I talked to them about the GTO and Solstice and the upcoming G6. They mentioned that Canada might get a small number of GTO's but it would be very very small ammounts like a special vehicle (and likely with "special" prices!)

The G6 will be in showrooms (and carshows) this year, I will test drive one when they get one this fall (2005 model late 2004). He thought that the G6 would sell around the price range of a fully loaded Grand AM GT so he figured 31-35 thousand, probably on the lower side of that range.

But the G6 will likely arrive before they have any more info about the Solstice. So I figure we might have to wait until early 2005 for more details about the Solstice, when it arrives, pricing, etc. He expected the Solstice to come in between 35,000 and 40,000 with very few paint choices and limited (read, barely any) options. But i dont need power windows and heated seats crap like that is just dead weight anyways.

I hope this helps alleviate some concerns on this board. I can't wait to get my new car! :banasex0r

I recieved an actual email from a GM Canada in response to my original inquiry. This was not a rumor at the time it was staight from GM Canada. And the email I recieved was not a form letter at all. I have since emptied my deleted emails or I would post the response. But as I said In the original post, it is still early for gm canada to really know. Untill GM sets a firm actuall production number we have no way of knowing if the will even produce enough for the US market let alone us poor saps up in canada. And with the current constraints of
Hydro-forming the estimates of 20000-30000 for the first few years sound about right.
Just a quick calculation with the above numbers and you get a max of 577 units per State.

Now you also stated that the price would be $35000-$40000 that sounds incredibly high for a US to canada car conversion price. It would be considerably cheaper to directly import the car from the states.

One last note, let this be said,
I really really really hope that we do get the Solstice up here during the launch year. Even if its delayed 6 months thats not even that bad seeing as it will be September when its released and well October we get DAMN cold here in Calgary and it will just have to sit in the garage untill spring. Although I have be known to take the top down and and go for a spin in the Fiat when ever we get a chinook.

just my 2 cents

I too have emailed GM canada but only received brief replies, they are always lacking details/facts and no guarantee statements about upcoming products.

As for the price, by my own calculations, $25000 x 1.48 (roughly the current conversion rate) = $37000 smack dab in the middle of the price range he guestimated. And I would not be surprised by those prices (or higher) if Canadian dealerships get a limited # of cars to sell.

As for the hydro-forming production numbers and production rate, this all remains to be seen since it is GM's first crack at it.

I would not be surprised if the car is delayed a few months (many new models are), but I am quite confident that the car will get here.

BC has dramatically different weather than the rest of Canada so extreme cold weather is not a concern, but I hope the car comes with a leak-free top.

ooops I was slightly off with the #'s

It should be closer to $33000 but after destination charge and taxes it will still be over 36000 likely.

I really hope your right squirrel...but i thought the base was gonna roll in around 20k for the solstice american...equally around 28k for Canada. Which is what a base Miata is about.

Who knows what the actual price will be...But i would like to see what a hardtop would look like on that solstice. I am fond of the one on the boxster ... so maybe it'll look great. :bouncy:

I live in bC too...so I'll see how the roof is sitting out in the rain for 8 hrs ;)
