: Who Are We?
Since it seems that the Solstice will be built, and that this site will grow & add members it might be good for us to introduce ourselves. I for one would be interested in what you own now and how you became a car guy / gal? I am a relative newcomer and found this site by accident, but it looks like the site has had many members for quite awhile.
As for me I live just north of Richmond Va. and a little south of Ashland Va. in central Va. I have been a motorsports guy my whole life. I follow & enjoy Sportbike, F1, and ALMS racing. I have only owned one true “performance sports” car (a 71 LT1 Vette) so far, but am looking forward to the introduction of the Solstice as a possible “next” sports car. Since the Vette, and really before it, I have owned motorcycles and have enjoyed the performance of my last couple of Sportbikes. I have been considering the purchase of the Honda S2000 since it was introduced in 2000 but its “market adjusted prices” and some tranny, engine, and other issues have put me off. The price and great bodywork of the Solstice have won me over and like you I can’t wait for its arrival.
What about you? Who are you and what have you owned or lusted after? Car-wise that is! :)
garyhoov 01-10-2004, 02:30 PM Hey Chip! I've been trying to place the fairing in your avatar. It's not an R1, is it?
I've liked small, responsive cars and motorcycles since I was old enough to remember. My grandfather had a garage full of projects. He was into Nash's - he had several Ramblers and a Metropolitan that I always loved. He had lifts and winches with various Frankencars. Huge engines jammed into Vegas etc.
My first vehicle was an early '70's 350 Honda. My father's friend had a Ducati which I fell in love with. I finally bought a 750 Sport a few years ago to fulfill that dream.
I've been keeping my eye on the Solstice thinking it would be my next car, but I got impatient in November, and bought a Z4. Since it looks like it will be a while until the performance Solstice comes out, I'm thinking I might trade in and get one then (and I won't have to worry about waiting lists or dealer mark-ups).
Gary; Good to know there is at least one other "bikeguy" here. My avatar is not very clear but it's a photo of the fairing on my 99 VFR.

Nice! I've always loved V Engines on bikes. The inlines have always just seemed too wide and bulky to me.
Nyarlatothep 01-13-2004, 09:09 AM Hello there people! I'm a new member and as Chip requested, I will introduce myself...
My name is Luis and I live in Switzerland (that's why my english is not that great!). I also found this site by accident when I was looking for information about the Solstice. I think this car will replace my Opel Astra Turbo Conv. when the time will come (in other words, as soon as they put out a supercharged Solstice :D ). My other cars were a '97 Chrysler Sebring conv., a '93 Ford Probe GT and a '92 Mitsubishi Lancer GTi. I also own a bike, a small one (125cm), '87 Honda Rothmans Replica which I'm restoring.
I've been looking to import a '03 SVT Cobra, but now that I know about the Solstice and the fact that it's going to production... who needs a Cobra anyway?!? :D
Well, i hope I will be the proud owner of a supercharged Solstice, even if it was not built for the european market (that's really a shame).
Later, Luis
simmonsmb 01-14-2004, 07:56 AM I also stumbled across this site by accident one day. I've always been into cars. My Grandpa got me interested in cars at a very young age, and like him, I can look at almost any car and tell you what make/model/year and various performance aspects about it. I own a 1979 Camaro Berlinetta. My mom bought it brand new in '79 and when I turned 16 I inherited it. I've been slowly working on restoring her and hope to start hitting it hard core after I get the Solstice. I'm all for starting a Solstice owners group once it comes out.
Storz 01-14-2004, 12:48 PM Cool another Corvette person :)
I love my 87, torque is a great thing.
I am a student at CMU in michigan, graduating in May with a GIS degree, not really sure what I am going to do with it.
I am way into motorsports, I have an 86 Toyota MR2 that is fully gutted, rollbar, very not street legal but a blast to drive. The motor is coming out next week and getting rebuilt over the next couple months. I follow ALMS and World Speed Challenge, not so into Nascar or roundy round racing.
Well thats about it
John M 01-14-2004, 02:39 PM Hey, I suppose I should introduce myself. My name is John (hence the user name), and I’m a business student at Shippensburg University. I found this site while I was doing a marketing project on Saturn in October and was thrilled to find more Solstice enthusiasts on the web. Back then I thought I was excited about the car! After a few months of frequently checking the forum I finally decided to join. Just to give you a little background, I currently own 2 Acura Integras (a 1998 to drive and obsess over, and an old cheap busted one to fiddle around with that I will most likely destroy to the point of no return in my attempts to make it run). I am, unfortunately, hopelessly addicted to cars. I love driving them, working on them, looking at them, standing near them, thinking of them, reading about them, doodling pictures of them in class, wishing I had more of them…you get the idea. I also have a bad habit of spending all of my money on them. I can only assume that when I graduate and get a higher paying job this habit will escalate until the people who care about me finally have an intervention and send me off for some sort of therapy. Anyway, I’m just thrilled to see GM coming out with some quality cars. I would love nothing more than to find a GM product worth selling my Honda for (support the home team). Hopefully the Solstice will be it!
Stephen M 01-14-2004, 03:35 PM Howdy all-
I'm an engineer living and working in Maryland, about 25 minutes north of DC. First car was a 72 Opel GT, current car is a 91 Toyota MR2 Turbo. I also have a track-only 73 Opel GT that is slowly but surely being prepped for SCCA ITB racing as time and money allow. I took the MR2 to a few autocrosses and track days, but lately I've been going easy on it since it's my daily driver, has 140K+ miles, and has to last until the Solstice comes out. Current plan is to sell the MR2 and replace it with a Solstice once they're available, but in the interest of full disclosure I should mention I'm also following the prices of used C5s and new WRXs rather closely.

Smoknweelz 01-15-2004, 04:46 AM Anyway, I am yet another of the many who found this site by accident while looking for Solstice Pics and Info. I am also one of what looks to be a growing number of Corvette guys on the Site, I own a 1980 L82, Stock interior and body panels, but that's about it, I've got a Chevy 406, 3:73's, Custom exhaust, Urethane suspension, and a custom Metallic White Paint job on her... No not Pearl, more Silver/Gold, My girlfried hates her, I can't live without her! LOL!
Anyway, I have always been into cars, Form the time I was a Kid washing my dad's Dark Mettalic Blue '78 Pontiac T/A with the Shaker hood and T-tops, to the Time I was 14 and helping my Brother rebuild the 350 for his '68 Pontiac LeMans, Which I was to Inherit, until MOM intervened and Sold it for $800 bucks!
Anyways, my daily driver is a, Paid off, :bouncy: 98 Ford Mustang V-6, which was my first ever Brand new car, I love her and will drive her till she dies! Hopefully never!
I hope to have a blast on this site, and Love to see any site that is excited about the true reasons we all love cars, Looks and Performance!
Good to meet y'all
Mike,
Smoknweelz

Make that 3. :bouncy:
solsurvivor 01-21-2004, 11:39 AM Greetings all, I too found this site by accident. There was a picture and short article about the Solstice in our Sunday paper last week and I was trying to find out more info. Even though I subscribe to a few car magazines, I hadn't heard of the Solstice before. Looks like a great car as long as build quality is good and the price is what they say it will be. Of course I'm sure the dealers will gouge you on price at first, just as they did with the Miata.
Well, I've always loved cars for as long as I can remember. Growing up in the late 60's and early '70's I lusted after muscle cars, I really wanted a '69 Mach I. That all changed my freshman year of college, fall of 1973. A buddy of mine came over to show me his new car, a beautiful Emerald green 1972 Triumph TR6, with about 10k on the clock, still looked new. One ride and I was hooked. After that I became a fan of small open sports cars, which at the time mostly meant British, although the Alfas and Fiats were popular too (remember the Alfa in 'The Graduate'?) For the next couple of years I looked at many MG's, Healey's and Triumphs to replace my '73 Pinto. I finally found a nice maroon '72 TR6 in the fall of 1975. 28 years later I still have it. I drove it daily for a couple of years, then it sat in my parents garage for 8 years. In the mid '80's I did a refurbishing (not really a restoration, the car was still in good shape) and got into a British car club. I had a lot of fun, participating in rallys, an occasional autocross and shows, both locally and at national meets of the Vintage Triumph Register. In the late '80's I bought another TR6 for a frame up restoration. It's still a work in progress. lol. Work and my kids activities have taken priority and I don't have any time to work on the project right now, but it will eventually get done.
This past summer, I bought a '93 Honda del Sol, and I am now enjoying a small open two seater as a daily driver again. However, this car is going to my 16 yr. old son in June. This puts me back in my Dodge Durango as a daily driver and I don't want to go back! I still need to keep the Durango but I want a more fun car for a daily driver. So, I've been thinking about what to get. Another del Sol is a possibility, because you can pick one up pretty cheap. I've always wanted a Miata, because it reminds me so much in spirit of the British roadsters I've always loved. A Mini cooper is on my short list too. But the Solstice really caught my eye. It may be worth waiting for.
Sorry to be so long winded. I probably won't post much, but I will check this site from time to time for updates. Thanks, Tom
I'm a mid twenties med student who has been into cars since a matchbox collection at age four. After going through an '88 Mazda 626, followed by an '88 Buick Regal, I was finally able to get my first new car. I currently own a 2000 Mercury Cougar with a fairly extensive list of modifications to the engine, transmission, and suspension. I'm a bike guy ALSO and my second love is my 2000 Honda VFR. In addition to that, I have my pilot's license and spend a lot of time boating and jetskiing during the summer. I guess you could say that if it burns gas and goes faster than I can run, it's right up my alley.
Back to cars, I really just love being out on the road on a nice day, windows down, radio off, shifting up and down through the gears. The new Solstice looks fantastic: great lines, (hopefully) light weight, and rear wheel drive layout is all very exciting. Add to this a little forced-induction, and I've found a car to keep me daydreaming. This seems like a fabulous car to tackle a backroad with. I can't wait. Now if I can just pay off these student loans... :banasex0r
Shigirl 01-23-2004, 08:46 AM Hello everyone. I guess this is a good place to introduce myself, I signed up for this site about a week ago. My name is Crystal and I have been into cars since before I can remember. I grew up around drag racing, my family still has two cars that race in Division 2 and NHRA National events. Into all sorts of racing, drag (of course), NASCAR, rally, bike, pretty much everything.
Found this site like pretty much everyone else, just looking for more info on the Solstice. I think I stumbled across the Solstice first when I was on Pontiac's website looking at concepts and the obsession grew from there.
Currently I drive a 96 Jeep Cherokee with an inline 6, trying not to mod it but it is getting hard. The other cars we have are a 2004 Mini Cooper S and a 1995 Pontiac Firebird Forumla. The Formula has a stroked 396 putting out some pretty decent numbers. The Mini is our second one, not too happy with the first one becuase of so squeaks and rattles but this one is much better.
Looking forward to learning more about everyone and seeing what GM decides to do with the Solstice.
xfire305 01-23-2004, 09:08 PM My name is Gray - and I have always been a Pontiac guy since I was about 1978 - then it was the Trans Am. My first car was a 1983 Trans Am. I have also owned a 1990 Formula, a 1995 and 1996 Trans Am - one was fitted with the WS6 package, a 1988 Fiero Formula, a 2001 and 2002 BMW M3, and recently a 2003 Mini Cooper S. There were a few GM full size truck/SUV's along the way. An Accord, Wrangler, and Fiesta have also found a home in my drive. My wife is pure BMW - currently a 330Cic - and has only had a 3-series as "her car." I am really looking foward to the Solstice - especially in the coupe. Of course, the quality is going to have to be high. For the price range, there are many cars to compete against - Miata, Mini Cooper S, Beetle Turbo S, BMW M Z, and MR2 - most are German or Japanese. Pontiac has the wisdom of the Fiero to build upon. Make the car in both an affordable and sport package, figure out the flaws before production (or quickly after), and ensure survivability by spreading the costs/risks/profits to a few other cars on the same platform. While the Saturn Coupe concept has its appeal - the Solstice still is the top choice.
Spookie 01-27-2004, 12:13 PM I suppose I'll introduce my self as well. My names Spookie, well at least that's what all my friends call me, hence my loggin name. I drive a 93' Mitsubishi 3000GT VR-4 that's deffinitly not stock. I also own a 94' Eagle Talon Tsi. I'm not much for introductions, but I guess that will do for now.
Well I shall join the crowd and introduce myself. Im Link and just like spookie that what my friends and even my professors call me. Im a huge Fantasy dork so videogames as well as LOTRs and swords are a big part of my life. The other half is cars. I wasnt really big into cars until middle of High school then I just took off like a rocket. I got a 87 buick from my Grandmother when she passed away and I customized and sunk way too much money into it but its really unique. Going up to VT for a wedding I got bit by the classic car bug when I got to drive my Uncles Triumph TR6. Probably no later then a month I purchased a 79 Triumph Spitfire with a GT6 engine in it and shes my baby. I have found my niche in classic cars and roadsters so obviously I love the Solstice. Um im a forensic chemistry major at Towson U and if you want to see pics of either car just ask I have some. Im trying to learn as much as I can so I never have to take the car to a shop because its too much fun doing it yourself.
ZiggyKD 02-09-2004, 12:51 PM I'm a sophomore mechanical engineer at florida state university. grew up in a chevy family, but an objective one: we are fans of gm cars that are deserving of our affection. as a consequence, I love performance cars in general, not just american ones.
but man, I'm crappin-my-pants happy about the solstice :fart:
dav8or 02-13-2004, 04:08 PM Hi my name is Dave... I'm a pilot living in North Carolina. I've got a 40 mile each way commute to work and have been looking for a sporty, inexpensive car.
I've owned a 88 MR2 and a 67 Baja Bug that I built. My pressent daily driver is a 99 Nissan 4x4 King Cab that is going to be upgraded to either a Titan or the 05 Frontier (4X4 of course). My wife drives a SUV in the winter and summer and a 2001 BMW Z3 in the spring and fall. I like driving the Z3 but I would have the top down more if I drove alone.
I would really like to see this car come in at the target price with better performance than a Miata. I think GM will make a nitch car and try to broad base it.
Pettee17 02-13-2004, 05:53 PM Well, My name is Mike. I am 19, and live in Dover, DE. I got interested in cars the day my neighbor started his 70 Z28 that i didnt know he had. I wen to the track with him the next week and watched him run a 9.2. I was hooked. My first car was/is a 67 Mustang that my dad and I restored. I am now selling it. I purchased a 96 Firebird, which i ran into the ground. Then purchased a 2000 Z28. Had some fun with it, Longtube headers, Cam, tuning, It made 377 Rear wheel horsepower and ran mid 12s. After a while it got to be too much for daily driving, so i traded it in on the 2000 Z71 Tahoe. I bought the motorcycle so that my dad and I would have something to do together since my parents split up. And it is my main transportation now.
Cant beat a bike, fun and economical.
I am a full time student at Del Tech and work full time at night baking bagels in a local bagel shop.
I am going to preorder a Solstice as soon as my tax return comes in, and then the waiting game begins. :)
Hello all my name in Mike from NJ. I'm an IT manager and the Solstice is targeted to be my weekend car. I currently drive a 2001 Escape which gets me to work (33 mile commute). Hoping to keep the Solstice in the garage all shiny and new ready for the sunny days. For a 2nd car I'm happy about the low intro price of the Solstice (can't drop 35-40k on a 2nd car). I was looking around for something small like a Miata or Mini Cooper when I stumbled on the Solstice. Glad I did, looks to worth the wait!
:hat:
gwenz_gurl08 03-11-2004, 05:59 PM hi everyone! i accidentally found this site during my search for extraordinary cars. Like you guyz, im also a car obsessed person. But it just developed lately. I currently own an Infiniti G20. Also dreaming to have a solstice in the future, but that's my ultimate goal. For now i am planning to buy a BMW M5, but im still saving for it...
gwenz_gurl08 03-11-2004, 06:03 PM btw,my friends call me gwenz,25 y/o...from Marwood Rd,PA.
pachanga21 03-12-2004, 11:54 AM I guess it's my turn for this thread. i live in westchester county, that's a northern suburb of NYC. i've been a fan of cars since i was young. First car i brought was a '97 dodge avenger, then i upgraded in 2002 to a '96 318ic. The drop top is a lot more fun and although the 318 only does 140, because it's german, the torque comes on early. i hope to add the solstice to my history. i'm not sure if i'll drop the 318 as soon as the solstice comes out, but i'm diggin the solstice something awful.................
:alfdance:
Brian 04-05-2004, 08:42 PM Hi, I am a 22 year old med student that currently drives a Ford Ranger, but my next car will be a solstice. I had allways planned on treating myself to a sports car after i graduate, initially I thought i would buy myself a corvette but after looking at the solstice and realizing how big my loans will be I have now fallen in love with the car. The timing is perfect by the time i will graduate the car will have been out for 2.5 years so the bugs should be gone and the super/turbocharged version should be out.
