Wow--I can't beleive there is a BB for the Solstice, considering its due date and all. Anyhow, I like th Solistice very much but would not buy a convertible--they are not year round cars where I live.

A coupe should be cheaper plus better rigidity issues. I am alittle disapointed that there is no talk of a coupe but it is stillearly, hopefully that will change.

I agree - I am hoping for a Hi-Perf. COUPE version of the Solstice to be made :)

The coupe would be a little more practical, but the 'vert would be more fun during the nice weather. I'm on the fence.

For pure performance, purely offering it as a coupe would have allowed them to make the car significantly lighter, as they wouldn't need the extra bracing to make up for the lack of a fixed roof. However, given that it's starting off as a convertible, I wouldn't expect any weight savings if they couped it. (See the 350Z coupe and 'vert as an example).

Still curious how the whole weight issue will play out... With only a 170 HP, there will be a big diff with a few hundred pounds.

I realize I'm probably in the minority, but I drive a roadster because it's a roadster. I don't want a coupe.

Too many convertibles aren't really roadsters, they're just sedans/coupes with the top lopped off. The Solstice, thankfully, is designed as a roadster, so building a coupe version after the fact doesn't bother me too much, but I'll never own one.

I drive top down to drive top down. I'm lucky enough at the moment to live in Texas, so I can drive top down year 'round. But when I lived in Minnesota I still drove top down, even below freezing - coats and hats and gloves exist for a reason (OK, I admit, once it snowed I pulled my beast off the road for the winter, but only because it was way too light for the slippery roads, not because it was too cold).

The other discussion I'm not going to get into (other than this little statement) is power. Yeah, power is nice, but that's not the point of a roadster. If I have too much power I get there too fast and I'm not driving any more. Give me my roadster and a poetic little twisting road along a poetic little lake. The rest of you can have your rocket and your straightaway.

Personally, the coupe appeals to me very much. I loved the thinking behind the BMW M Z coupe - it wasn't a sales juggernaut, but it is loved by owners/enthusiasts that truly want the handling and security of a rigid coupe. Like the M Z coupe, the sunroof option should be a large one. Look at the Corvette, and you can see that a coupe version of a roadster is the answer for many owners - and GM promotes and profits on it. I would have to drive both and see. A coupe could certainly be less expensive - and the model that gets the ultimate power and handling goodies.
