I looked into it and they were approved to trademark the Solstice name as soon as September 17, 2002 when they got mailed the Notice of allowance . It is required that the statement of use be filed within 6 months of recieving Notice of allowance. But GM also had a option of extending the Notice of Allowance for another 6 months by requesting extensions of time for a total of 5 times or 36 months. So GM filed for extension on March 4, 2003 just before the first 6 months expired. Now GM had untill September 18, 2003 to file statement of use. Instead GM let the time run out and Solstice's status changed to abandoned. From the time Solstice became abandoned, GM only had 2 months to revive the trademark application with Request for Reinstatement . So that put the deadline at November 17, 2003. When GM failed to do that, Abandonment - No use statement filed was attached to the status.

I am not sure if GM can revive the trademark application after that date. But it leaves me questioning why GM would be so careless with the Solstice trademark. There is every indication that GM intends on producing this Pontiac Sports Car, but is "Solstice" really the final name to this car? If it was, then why not extend the Notice of Allowance for a second time which only costs $150?

Your going to have to change the name of this site. I hope they don't call it the firebird. Sounds cheap like the old cars by that name.
