I've never seen the car, but by looking at the pictures here and other places, the front end of this car is going to be hammered by road grit. I hope the folks on the design team provide some form of protection adjacent to and below the grille, as well as under the headlights. We better order a lot of touch up paint when you order the car.

3M has a thin "film" that you can put over the front end, its hard to see it unless you look close, but it does protect against rock chips and road grime, etc. Works good, I know alot of Z06 guys using it.

Every car is going to be hit by particles. I don't think that this car is going to attract any more hits by rocks and bugs than my car does. In fact it might actually get hit less since it appears to be very aerodynamic. Also the front cross section seems very small. So maybe there is less of a chance of getting hit. When I worked on planes it seemed like more bugs hit the windows than the nose. I think it was because the nose was more aerodynamic. If you look at the front of an Audi TT you might think that the Solstice has a better design for preventing chips.

If they had put a huge grill on it and bigger headlights then it would change the look of the car and you probably wouldn't think that it was a rock chip hazard. Just because you see more paint on the front doesn't make it more prone to get hit by rocks.

That's my opinion.

The reason that I think it might get more chips then other vehicles is simply because this car does NOT have a "pronounced" nose -- for example, a regular car has a pretty distinct point. So, below the point, you are likely to get chips. Above the point, since it is somewhat shielded, you are not.

On this car, there really is no point, more of a rounded meeting between the top and bottom, which makes me think that it will get more chips.

But, I'm no engineer ;)

That was what I was thinking as well. Time will tell!

I see your point. Hopefully the air passing over the hood (at the speed you would have to be traveling in order for a rock to chip the paint in the first place) might just carry that rock with it over the hood instead of into it. Or if it does hit the hood, then the angle would be sufficient to deflect it so that the full force of the rock isn't felt on the hood. But I'm no engineer

Also if you look at the new VW Beetle you will notice it has the same problem with all of the hood being at possible risk of getting hit by rocks. I wonder if those cars have a problem with chips? I don't know anybody with one to ask, but the next time I see one in a parking lot I might take a look.

That would suck if you had to put a bra on this car. Especially since the front styling is one of the most attractive features.

Damn, thats a good idea. I never thought of that, but you are right. The bug has a similarly shaped front end. Its not nearly as nice looking, but similar shape.

We need to make a post on a bug forum :)
